Antivirus software detects, and then prevents, disarms or removes malicious programs or malware, often referred to as ‘viruses’. Firstly I would suggest staying away from Norton and McAfee, both were good back in the day as they were the first on the scene commercially available to everyone. However as the years stretch on we see them becoming more bloated to the point where they do nothing more than slow your computer down. On top of that they have become a ‘reactive’ type antivirus where they wait until you become infected to attempt a repair.

Theres the free AVG and Avast. I would use these only as a temporary solution whilst saving up for a professional Security Suite. Don’t be fooled with the ‘paid’ versions of these two either, they do little more than add more buttons, they are still only as good as their ‘free counterparts’.

BitDefender, Kaspersky and Trend Micro seem to be the only set of ‘good’ security suites. Bit defender often rates as number one in the ‘Top 10’ Reviews, however through our professional experience, it asks too many questions often popping up too much and feeling a little sluggish on the computers it runs on. Kaspersky is amazing, it is a ‘proactive’ security suite preventing you from infection well before any virus gets into your computer. I would however avoid using it on laptops unless they are quite powerful as it too is a little sluggish on laptops in particular. Trend Micro is currently the cream of the crop, it is ‘proactive’ with an amazing Internet security, it protects against both Viruses and Malware and works on the cloud meaning it doesn’t slow your computer when running.
